I am planning on a mid April haul road caribou hunt this year. I will be rifle hunting, so plan on skiing or snowshoeing in the 5 miles, and towing a sled. Tried this hunt in October with snowshoes and a sled. It worked great, except we couldnt find the bou. Wondering what people suggest in terms of finding the animals in April. Should I pick a spot ahead of time and stick with it, or just drive the highway hoping to find some groups of animals which could give us an indication of where to go in? I imagine this time of year, you dont have to to go very far north of the mountains? Any tips or stories from your own spring hunts would be great!

I am Planning on taking my ski doo out Saturday... was wondering if anyone has been out to Turnagain? Conditions? Worth a trip? If it is to bad then I will just end up driving to eureka. Give me some sick insight!!! Thanks

Well i drew an 802 tag and being a southeast guy have a few questions for those familiar with the area.
I have a 16' jet skiff w/ 55 pump and a 16' workskiff w/ 70 foustroke. What is the best boat to take?

Or do we get a float plane in on the river?

How remote is this? Should we need assistance will someone stop and help?

Would you hunt the southside on the yukon by boat or get flown into the little mud and float hunt to the novi?

Just not sure what to do having never been there.

Not asking for your secret spot just some direction toward a good trip.

My partner will have the registration permit ...we are both residents.

Anyone in SEAK ever use this boat polish product? It was recommended to me by a friend and is supposed to last longer and easier to apply than wax. However, lots of MIXED reviews on the internet machine. Maybe it works better in cloudy SEAK...
Any experiences?

My son and I are looking in the ways to hunt dm769. one option is to use a jet boat or powered cataraft to cross the tanana and ferry an argo or wheeler. Has anyone had any experience of leaving the ferry boat tied up for a few days / week while hunting? Would the boat be there on return or do you need to leave a person and "" base camp " to keep an eye on things. Thirty years ago I would never have been concerned, now I am not sure if I am conderned because of my age or experience or just general paranoia.

Well I had some awesome luck this year and ended up drawing a Karluk lake tag. I have been on one bear hunt on Kodiak in the fall so I kind of know what to expect for weather and such. I was wondering if anyone has hunted this area in the past. I already have booked an air taxi and I am trying to figure out the rest of the details. The two biggest things I am trying to figure out is a good place to camp and do I need to rent a zodiac? I am hoping to stay off the native land to avoid the big fees. I am a military guy with a young family so I don't have big bucks to spend. This is my last hunt of my 6 year tour of Alaska so I want to make it count! Someday I will be back to call Alaska home.

I drew a DM806 tag, looked like it had a decent success rate. After reading how crowded the Nowitna gets I'm starting to second guess burning the gas to get out there. Anyone been on this hunt? Is it worth the trip? Thanks.

Just wanted to throw this out there and see if there were any takers. I have a 5-20x50 Vortex Razor HD rifle scope that is an amazing piece of glass but when I built my rifle I didn't think it would end up as heavy as it did (11lbs). I'm trying to trim some weight off, the scope is a 35mm body instead of your standard 30mm. So I'm looking for a smaller bodied scope to swap it out with. I would be looking for glass that's equal in value and quality. Preferably Zeiss. I have all manuals, original box, flip up caps and level. I also have quality 35mm rings to go with it. Here's a link to the vortex website. The scope is in like new condition. It's been on my rifle for 6 months.

What will you hunting handgun be sighter with this year. Scope,dot or irons. My 9 1/2" SRH 44mag has a 2X leupold and iron for my Alaskan 454peep rear, green dot front.

I am new to the area with only deer hunting as my background. I hear about monthly meetings in Eagle River and would like to know more information (when and where). I am eager to get into hunting season but want to do it right. I.e. Gear, knowledge, mentorship on all aspects of hunting in Alaska. I bought a rifle before I came up but from reading a little I may have bought too big. I continue to browse the posts and learn that way but always look forward to meeting people as well.
